Memorial Frames and Funeral Displays: A Gentle Guide for Families

7 November 2026 · Saydo Amani WejuliUpdated 7 November 2026

When a loved one passes on, families in Kenya are often asked to make many decisions in a short time. Choosing a memorial frame may feel like a small task among many, but it is one that stays. The frame stands beside the casket during the service, welcomes mourners at home, and later finds a place on the wall as a way of remembering. This guide offers simple, practical help so you can make the choice calmly and with care.

Take your time where you can

There is no right or wrong way to remember someone. If it helps, ask one or two family members to handle the frame and programme so others can focus on arrangements and on each other. Share this guide with them if it makes things easier.

Choosing the photo

The photo is the heart of the frame. A few gentle suggestions:

  • Choose a photo where your loved one looks like themselves. It does not have to be formal. A natural smile is often what people remember most.
  • Pick a clear, well-lit photo. Faces should be sharp and not too small in the picture.
  • Use the original where possible. A photo taken straight from a phone camera or a good scan of a printed photo will look better than a screenshot or a photo forwarded many times on WhatsApp.
  • Agree as a family. Ask close relatives to share their favourite photos, then choose together.
  • If the best photo has other people in it, mention it when you order so the team can advise on focusing on your loved one.

Choosing the wording

All-Pod's memorial frame carries the words "In Loving Memory" and a comforting verse. On request, you can also add:

  • Your loved one's full name, including any names they were known by
  • Dates of birth and passing

Tips for names and dates:

  • Write the name exactly as the family wishes it to appear, and check the spelling with someone who knows it well.
  • Double-check dates against official documents before sending.
  • Have a second family member read everything once more before you confirm the order. It is easy to miss a small error at a difficult time.

Choosing the frame

The frame comes in two sizes and two finishes:

  • A4 – suits a table beside the casket, a home display or a church altar, and fits easily on a wall afterwards.
  • A3 – larger and easier to see from a distance, which helps at services in large churches, halls or outdoor gatherings.
  • Wood frame – warm and traditional, giving a homely feel.
  • Black frame – simple, dignified and formal.

Some families order one A3 frame for the service and smaller A4 frames as keepsakes for the children or close relatives.

Matching the frame with the funeral programme

A matching funeral programme cover design is available. Using the same photo, wording style and colours on both helps everything feel unified and considered on the day.

When planning both together:

  • Use the same main photo, or a photo from the same period of life.
  • Keep the name and dates written the same way on both.
  • Share the programme details, such as the order of service, hymns and tributes, as early as you can so everything is ready in time.

Displaying the frame on the day

  • Place it on a small table or easel near the casket or at the front of the venue.
  • A white cloth, flowers or a candle beside the frame creates a peaceful space.
  • At home, set it where visitors can pause, such as near the entrance or in the sitting room.

After the funeral

Many families keep the memorial frame on the wall at home, or move it to the family's rural home. Keep it out of direct sunlight to protect the photo, and wipe the glass gently with a soft cloth.

A short checklist

  • Photo chosen and agreed by the family
  • Name and dates checked by a second person
  • Size: A4 or A3
  • Frame: wood or black
  • Matching programme cover, if needed
  • Date of the service and delivery address

We are sorry for your loss. When you are ready, you can order a memorial frame on All-Pod and we will deliver it with care anywhere in Kenya.
